Tips for Children with Daytime Urinary Incontinence
Daytime wetting is a common problem among children. Around 3-4% of children between the ages of 3 and 12 experience daytime urinary leakage regularly, but it can be reduced with proper support.
- Encourage the child to use the toilet regularly, even if they don't feel the urge.
- Schedule fixed toilet times and ensure the child empties their bladder completely.
- A urination diary can help track patterns and improve bladder control.
- Never punish the child for accidents – instead, encourage them and boost their confidence.
- Ensure the child drinks enough water to maintain good hydration and support bathroom visits.
- A vibrating alarm watch can be a helpful tool to remind the child to use the toilet, especially when you're not around to remind them in person.
What if Your Child Has Bedwetting at Night?
The medical term for bedwetting is nocturnal enuresis. Experts estimate that up to 160 million people worldwide suffer from bedwetting. Bedwetting can significantly affect families. However, there are a few tips on how to manage the issue. Here’s a list that may help:
- Bedwetting is not your child’s fault. Never punish or tease the child.
- Allow the child to drink what they want. Swedish research has shown that it has little impact on bedwetting alarm treatments.
- Use Pjama when the child sleeps, both at home and away.
- For daytime urine leakage, use Pjama Vibrating Alarm Watch.
- Download our DryGuardians app to use the calendar and track progress. This will also be useful when contacting a doctor.
- Talk about it! Many adults and children suffer from bedwetting, but no one talks about it.
